Airline flies anti-virus supplies to Xinjiang

A charter flight from Shanghai delivered 1.46 tons of anti-coronavirus supplies to northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region yesterday.
The Flight CZ6974 operated by China Southern Airlines took off from Pudong airport at 1:11am and landed at the airport in the regional capital Urumqi around 6am.
The supplies are mainly disposable virus sampling tubes and hazmat suits from Kangjian Medical based in neighboring Jiangsu Province.
Xinjiang reported eight new confirmed domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases on Monday, the regional health commission said yesterday.
Of the eight confirmed cases seven were in Urumqi while the other was in the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. The region also registered five new asymptomatic cases, all in Urumqi, on Monday.
Urgent transport order
From July 15 to 20, Xinjiang had reported a total of 55 confirmed COVID-19 cases. By Monday, 3,119 people were still under medical observation.
China Southern’s Shanghai branch received the urgent transport order on Monday night and organized a special team to support the task, the airline said.
The team spent two hours to finish the plane deployment and evaluation, organizing crew and on-site support to ensure the on-time takeoff of the charter flight.
Since Monday, China Southern Shanghai has transported a total of 14.5 tons of anti-coronavirus supplies, mainly hazmat suits, sampling tubes and medicines, to Urumqi, according to the Guangzhou-based airline.
